Mindfulness is an ancient form of meditation that consists in focusing completely on your present moment experience without judging or trying to change it in any way whatever.
Although it's basically very simple, it is equally challenging--especially at the outset. It has a wide range of very positive benefits, ranging from spiritual development to coping more effectively with the many adversities of life. Extensive research by Dr. Richard Davidson at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, has documented how mindfulness practice gives rise to measurable and very positive changes in the brain.
Through his Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn has been--and continues to be--one of most important leaders in bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of western society over the past 30 years.
His presentation on mindfulness to a group of Google employees in the following video provides an outstanding and comprehensive introduction to this profoundly important component of optimal health.
